advocacy, information, and training supporting exceptional municipal governance.

Celebrating 100 Years of Municipal Service

2023 marks the Colorado Municipal League’s centennial year. For 100 years, we have worked alongside Colorado’s cities and towns to create the communities we cherish today. It is CML’s mission to serve as an information resource, advocate, and above all else, supporter of our members. As we celebrate this milestone, we are honored to serve our members and look forward to reflecting on our history with you. We are celebrating in several capacities this year, so make sure to check back here regularly to stay up to date and celebrate with us!

100 Years of Meaningful Membership

In part 8 of our 8-part series, we’re wrapping up our 100th Anniversary with a story about our members. The Colorado Municipal League was established to advocate for municipalities at the state level, gather and share resources and information of municipal interest, and facilitate collaboration among Colorado’s many cities and towns.

As we close this anniversary publication, we would like to extend our gratitude to our members for 100 years of collaboration and growth. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to good governance. We are grateful for our first 100 years and look forward to celebrating the next 100.

The Dates We’ve Visited So Far

As we tell our stories each month, we’ll publish important dates in our history on the timeline below. Check back each month to see where we’ve most recently covered.

Celebrate With Us

We’re hitting the road to make sure we celebrate with each and every one of our members! Throughout the year, CML staff will be dropping into municipalities with a sweet treat, and possibly some CML bucks. Keep an eye on our Appreciation Tour progress on this page.

There will be several other opportunities to celebrate our 100th anniversary with us this year! Our 2023 Annual Conference in Aurora, taking place June 25 – 28, will be full of awesome trainings you can use today and reflection on lessons we can learn from the past. Later this year, we will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of CML’s building. We’ll be releasing details about that celebration later in 2023.

Celebrating where it all began

In April, we celebrated our anniversary with the League’s founding members. The group came together at the University of Colorado, where it all began. We were thrilled to have representation from each municipality, and the opportunity to celebrate in such a historic space.

Thanks to all those who came to Boulder to celebrate with us!

100th Anniversary Celebration
Back to the beginning: Colorado Municipal League celebrated 100 Years of local government advocacy on April 26, 2023, at Macky Auditorium, where the first conference was held a century ago. Representatives from the 11-founding municipalities who voted to form CML were present to celebrate the milestone and honor the visionary individuals who first answered the call to partnership. To further commemorate the occasion, performers from the CU Sandbox Student Series represented this momentous occasion, taking attendees back 100 years.

CML Moments in Time

CML wouldn’t be what we are without our members. As we celebrate our accomplishments, we share them with the municipalities across the state who come together to collaborate each year, lend their passion for their communities to our advocacy efforts in and out of the legislative session, and give insights to their colleagues by contributing to our resources. We are thrilled to celebrate 100 years with you, and look forward to 100 more. In the video below, we have compiled quotes from members who have participated in stories thus far and photos across decades. Stay tuned, it will be updated throughout 2023!
